Sophie Aitchison

Physiotherapist

Sophie graduated with first class honours from The University of Birmingham (UK) in 2007 and has worked in The National Health Service in England for 8 years prior to moving to Wellington. She worked at two large Trusts including The University Hospital Wales, Cardiff and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham (Royal College of Defence Medicine Headquarters and Major Trauma Centre) where she gained a vast breadth of experience across many specialities including trauma, neurology, neurosurgery, burns and plastics, ED and outpatients. This included rehabilitation from back, neck and other musculoskeletal surgeries. She also has experience working with clients who have persistent or chronic pain working alongside specialist pain consultants.

Since moving to Wellington a year ago, Sophie has worked in a private clinic, provided Physio clinics at The Orthopaedics and Sports Centre at Bowen Hospital, and pitch-side rugby cover.
Sophie has a specialist interest in rehabilitation following injury or surgery from complex fractures or nerve injuries. Working with military patients during the war in Afghanistan was a great inspiration.
With a personal interest in gymnastics and hockey, and having just completed her first half Ironman, Sophie particularly enjoys working with sports injuries and appreciates the impact of injury on quality of life.

“I love to meet clients and see them achieve their goals no matter what they may be. I believe the key to good rehabilitation is an individualised client-centred programme that meets their needs and goals… and of course, it’s essential to have fun while you do it!”
